Neil Doesn’t Disappoint

What a great concert!  Neil Diamond is such an entertainer.  For 2 hours, without interruption, he had people of all ages on their feet.  He is a classic!  The only bad part of the evening, when I went to take a picture of me and Rich before going in, I realized I left the camera batteries on the charger at home!  I did take a few with my cell phone camera though, but the resolution is horrible!  I’ll put a few at the bottom of the page for your viewing pleasure!

And what a great night for Hartford!  There were so many people at the concert, and many downtown restaurants and bars were packed before and after the concert.  My husband, brother, sister-in-law and I went to agave for a drink afterward.  Now that was a good margherita!

If you saw the concert, what did you think?  I’d love to hear what you thought about it.

  2. Jamie,
I thought the concert was absolutely AWESOME and it wasnt just me who thought so. I belong to a wonderful online community called IAIS (www.iaisnd.com) and we are Diamondheads from all over the world. Check out their comments and reviews of concerts from the beginning of his US tour which began in St. Paul on 7/19. Anyway, Ive been a fan of his since the early 80s and my last concert of his prior to Hartford was in 1986 at MSG (I had won tickets from WELI radio in addition to a limo ride to and from the concert, a diamond ring, and an anthology collection of Columbia record albums)-the month before had been my 1st concert at the New Haven Coliseum. In the 22 years since then, Ive gotten married, had kids (4- ages 14,11,9,and 3) and had jobs. When the Stages collection came out, I discovered Neil Diamond again and did a google search for a fan club. I was introduced to the world of IAISND.Com in 2003. In 2005 1 week prior to the birth of my 4th child, friends of mine threw me a baby shower and I was astounded at the amount of presents there! Turns out that my cyberfriends had gotten wind of the prospective shower and sent presents (thanks to my husband and a friend I met from the board who lives in St. Louis whom Ive NEVER met). There were gifts from Australia, England, Utah, California, I think just about every state was covered!. I attended this concert with a friend I met on the board from Hamden and I was awestruck the entire time! I thought Neil looked fit and very happy and the haunted version of Home Before Dark left me in tears. This song is by far a song that really hits home for him as I noticed he was on the verge of tears a couple of times and his voice even cracked a little. His old standards were phenomenal and I thought it was fantastic the way no one really wanted him to stop singing Sweet Caroline. I also couldnt believe the amount of people that knew the words to Crunchy Granola Suite and Brother Loves Traveling Salvation Show. Also, I was heartened by the amount of people at the show that were younger than some of his songs! Im glad you enjoyed the show also!

  3. I was at the concert too and the only complaint I had was that he didn’t (couldn’t) sing all my favorites.. He’d have to be singing for hours!! That was the 4th time I’ve seen him and he is still an incredible entertainer. I think he’s the one singer I can honestly say I love all of his songs.. He’s definately my all time favorite singer.

    Hope he comes back again!

  4. I was at Thursday’s concert with my boss, and it was a great night! When Neil went under the stage for a few minutes, I was worried that he wouldnt sing one of my favorite songs..But then he came back and started singing ‘Cracklin’ Rosie’ and all was right with the world once again!! Im only 23 and this was my first Neil Diamond concert, but I loved every minute of it! I hope he comes back!

  5. Loved, loved, loved the concert. 30 years old, first Neil Diamond concert…I burst into tears when he sang Love on the Rocks.
Lost my voice screaming along to Sweet Caroline!!!!
